In any other horror movie, the two might have been portrayed as teens who were annoyed to be given the task of taking care of the younger Judy. Instead, both came off as though they enjoyed being in her presence and wanted to help her with her problems at school and in her life. By the end, all three felt like truly close friends who would have bonded even if they had not been through the horrific experience that they survived together.

Annabelle Comes Home may have completed the franchise’s first full trilogy, but with that it also achieved what all cinematic universes hope to do in that it laid the groundwork for even more potential stories and unique visions of horror. With The Conjuring 3 planned for release in September of next year, and The Crooked Man and The Nun 2 in the works, The Conjuring Universe won’t be halting the nightmares anytime soon. We’re eager to see what kinds of terrors a cursed wedding dress, a ferryman, a werewolf demon, and a haunted screen might unleash.
It didn't take long before I started to lose interest in the movie and had my phone out instead. The storyline was so simplistic and straightforward that even a dead person could keep up here. There were no surprises along the way, and director used every page of 'how-to-make-a-generic-horror-movie' to the fullest.

Annabelle Comes Home is one of the weaker entries in the series, but it still delivers some good scares. While Annabelle Comes Home may not suit every horror fan’s taste, it’s still an engaging and exciting addition to The Conjuring series. As the scary high point of the franchise, it ties together the previous movies and provides a thrilling story with excellent pacing. The Warrens function as mature professionals, of course, but the children lack the proper experience or knowledge to fully understand what’s chasing them. The next morning, Ed and Lorraine returns and the trio tell them about their struggles. Eventually Daniela apologizes to Lorraine, but Lorraine knows her ill-advised actions were the result of her wanting to contact her late father. Lorraine tells Daniela about a message she received from him, returning the picture of her father that Daniela had inserted in the bracelet earlier. The two then reunite with the others to join Judy's birthday party celebrations along with Judy's friends. Ed and Lorraine return the next morning, and the girls approach them to recount the eventful night.

The tension is expertly crafted, with Dauberman cleverly using sound design, camera angles, and an incredible soundtrack to create a truly frightening experience. So, not only isAnnabelle Comes Homeinherently scary because of the creepy doll premise, but the film also includes traditional gore that may upset some viewers. But for those who are familiar with the horror genre, the visuals might not seem that problematic. Annabelle Comes Home may feel extra creepy based on the doll’s backstory and the domestic setting. This film taps into the paranoia that drives so many ‘80s horror classics, as humans are essentially hunted within their own home.
One year later, in 1972, the Warrens welcome Mary Ellen, who will be in charge of babysitting the couple's daughter, Judy, to their home when they go overnight to investigate another case. At school, Judy sees the spirit of a priest that begins following her. After shopping at her friend's supermarket and talking with her crush, Bob Palmeri, Mary Ellen starts to bake a cake for Judy's birthday. Daniela, who is curious about speaking to the dead after the death of her father, gives a pair of roller skates to Judy as her birthday present and convinces her to play with Mary Ellen outside. While they are away, Daniela tries to get into the artifacts room but finds the room securely locked. The second direction could be a sequel, but set on different lines and centred on different characters with respect to this film, with the Warrens being the only common thread connecting the two.
Judy explains that they must lock Annabelle in her case again so the other spirits will rest. When they attempt to retrieve the doll, Daniela is attacked and possessed by the Bride and starts attacking Mary Ellen. Eventually, Mary Ellen and Judy find the doll after the priest's spirit, acting as Judy's guardian, shows them the way. Daniela recovers when Judy plays Ed's recorded footage of the Bride's exorcism and helps Mary Ellen and Judy recover the doll. They managed to retrieve the glass case's key after they are attacked by demonic hands from the Feeley Meeley board game.
It’s a gleefully surprising yet typical ending for a horror movie, with ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ by King Harvest playing as the eerily colourful credits roll, and since the movie is part of larger, shared universe, one could usually expect a hint or two. To be fair though, none of the ‘Annabelle’ movies, nor many of the other movies in the franchise have post credits setting up future films, with most of the world building happening within the films’ runtime. Akin to the other films in the ‘Conjuring’verse, ‘Annabelle Comes Home’ has a ton of call-backs to previous films in the shared horror universe and a lot of stuff that sets up potential future movies.
This is a character who feels tailor-made to break out in a spinoff of her own, one that perhaps takes a horror jab at some of the tropes of romantic wedding comedies. Plus, the idea of a bride driven to bloodlust at her wedding and viciously attacking guests is too great a scenario to pass up. With the dress-centric horror film In Fabric making the festival rounds and gaining praise, I can’t imagine it’ll be too long before New Line says yes to a dress of their own. The film opened to favourable critical reviews and especially inspiring numbers which tells me that there is surely going to be another one.

It’s quite reminiscent of the way Wan utilized in the Nun in The Conjuring 2. One of the aspects that’s interesting about the character’s mythology is that photographs in the case files highlight that one of the Ferryman’s earlier victims looks exactly like Mary Ellen. The Ferryman, a creepy specter in an old suit with coins for eyes, The Bride, a murderous spirit in a wedding dress, and a vicious werewolf are just some of the new entities added to the mix. These additions help elevate the story, adding more depth and complexity to the plot.
